On January 22, 2020, the Government of Alberta issued a total of 201 invitations to apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residence. Candidates needed CRS score of over 350 in order to be invited.

Later on January 29, Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) issued 150 invitations where the CRS scores are as low as 300.
Express Entry candidates with a provincial nomination will receive an additional 600 points toward their overall CRS score, which assure that they will receive an invitation to apply for Canadian permanent residence in the very next federal Express Entry draw.

Job offer letter from Alberta is not required to receive an invitation from Alberta. The AINP says it may give priority to candidates who have the following three criteria:

  • a job offer and/or work experience in Alberta;
  • a degree from a Canadian post-secondary institution and a valid job offer; or
  • a parent, child or sibling already living in the province.
  • Alberta has invited 501 Express Entry candidates in the month of January 2020.

In this article, we will take a look at the Alberta Express Entry Route for Alberta PNP 2020.

ALBERTA EXPRESS ENTRY

The Alberta Express Entry stream is aligned with the federal Express Entry system. In order to be considered for the Alberta PNP stream, a candidate must already have an active profile in one of the three Express Entry aligned programs: Federal Skilled Worker, Federal Skilled Trades, or Canadian Experience Class.

Alberta will automatically consider profiles in the federal Express Entry pool. Alberta Immigration Nominee Program (AINP) will directly contact candidates whose profiles are of interest and will invite them to apply for the AINP Express Entry stream. While the exact selection criteria are unknown, AINP states that it will seek candidates who demonstrate strong ties to Alberta and who can support regional economic development and diversification.

It should be noted that in order to be considered by AINP, candidates must indicate Alberta as a province of interest in their Express Entry profile.

Once a candidate is notified by AINP, they may submit an official PNP application to the province. If this application is approved, the candidate will receive a provincial nomination, resulting in a 600 point increase to their Express Entry CRS score. This means that the candidate will be virtually guaranteed an official Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence in the next Express Entry Draw.

Manitoba’s latest provincial draw

The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) has announced its 85th Expression of Interest (EOI) draw on 12 March 2020. Manitoba has issued Letters of Advice to Apply (LAAs) to 222 immigration candidates from the following immigration streams.

  • Skilled Workers in Manitoba: 191
  • Skilled Workers Overseas: 13
  • International Education Stream: 18

To be eligible to receive a provincial nomination from the province of Manitoba the candidates need to register an EOI with the MPNP. An EOI is an online system with a maximum score of 1,000. Points are awarded based on the applicant’s educational qualification, work experience, connections to Manitoba and proficiency in English or French, among other factors.

To be eligible to apply for Manitoba nomination:

  • The applicant must have an established connection to Manitoba such as close family or friends or
  • Previous education or work experience in the province or
  • A full-time, permanent job offer from a Manitoba employer
